Community

These images are from Seaton Sluice Community Centre, a community owned and volunteer run facility in the NE of England.

I first came to Seaton Sluice Community Centre in early 2023. and was immediately struck by the spirit of community, energy, and sheer scale of activities on offer. There is was something for everyone and all ages, from a library, post office, a special needs classroom, lunch club and cafe, uniform exchange, a warm space, community gardens and much more, as well as over fifty different activity groups and clubs.

With the agreement of the committee and all of the volunteers I tried to capture something of the community spirit through a series of photographs.

All of the images were created during the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024.

During this period Seaton Sluice Community Centre was awarded The King’s Award For Voluntary Service. This is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK. It was a fantastic achievement which was celebrated with the Duchess of Northumberland at Alnwick Castle. The Duchess officially presented the award on behalf of HRH King Charles III.

These images only convey a tiny part of the people and activities that take place in Seaton Sluice Community Centre.
